In the heart of Normandy, we discovered a cluster of historic stone cottages in the tiny village of St. Clair, near Alençon. We restored two of them to create St. Clair Cottages LLC. We preserved the centuries-old charm of the exteriors. While completely redoing the interiors, we kept such features as traditional fireplaces. The cottages now provide comfortable accommodations for seven, with every modern convenience.
The cottages perch on a knoll, with sweeping views of the village, the peaceful countryside, and only three miles away, the twin spires of the magnificent Notre-Dame Cathedral of the town of Sées. The cathedral is illuminated at night, a glorious sight.
Besides enjoying village life, the members of St. Clair Cottages LLC can make their Dream Home Abroad a center for a myriad of explorations. Near at hand is the Forest d’Écouves, with woodland paths to stroll. The son-et-lumière show at the cathedral is a summertime must. The D-Day beaches are an hour and a half away, the chateaux of the Loire an hour and a half to the south, and Paris is just two hours by train. The awe-inspiring vision of Mont St-Michel with its spire rising from the sea is less than a two-hour drive.
