Siran is no exception.
It’s in the Minervois, on the northern reaches of the Languedoc region in southern France. The Minervois is bounded on the north by the
Montagne Noire (Black Mountain) and on the south by the Canal du Midi. To the west is the walled city of Carcassonne; to the east,
the ancient Roman port of Narbonne. Provence is only an hour or so to the east, the Mediterranean seashore an hour to the south.
Visitors to this corner of France find a variety of attractions. The sunny slopes of the foothills and the broad plains of the Minervois are ideal for grape growing. Siran and five other villages constitute the restricted area producing wine of the appellation “Minervois la Livinière” and offer wine tasting right in Siran. Farther afield, there are castles and caves, the medieval fairytale city of Carcassonne and the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean. The Canal du Midi is easily accessible—on this historic waterway that runs from Toulouse to the Mediterranean one may go cruising for a day, a week or a month.
