Dream Homes Abroad: a simple, sensible way to enjoy holidays abroad. You share home ownership with other compatible, like-minded people, with each owner having exclusive use of the house for a specified period per year. During your vacation you live in your very own home. You avoid the considerable expense of buying a house you’ll use only a few months a year and the time and cost of remodeling, to say nothing of the difficulties of dealing with local workmen. (No Peter Mayle-type horror stories for you!) Best of all, you’re assured of coming back year after year to the same familiar, welcoming place.
It starts with our selection of just the right house. First, we explore the region to find a house that epitomizes the local culture and lifestyle. We buy it, then restore, remodel and upgrade it until it meets our high standards. We maintain its architectural integrity. We employ local artisans and craftsmen and use local materials. We furnish it completely with a mix of charming antiques from the region and new pieces. We pay particular attention to kitchens and bathrooms, where you’ll find modern fixtures and appliances. In the fully equipped kitchen we provide tableware, glassware, linens, cookware. Bathrooms have all necessities, including linens. Bedrooms are fully furnished with bedding.
Each home has a complete House Manual, with information on operation and maintenance along with helpful tips on local restaurants, shops, services and attractions.
When all is ready, you move in. As soon as we buy a house we form an LLC—a Limited Liability Company--specifically for that house. (An LLC is somewhere between a corporation and a partnership, with equal ownership by all members and with fewer financial restrictions than a corporation. See FAQ for further definition.) Members may then acquire units in the LLC, whereupon they may at once begin using the house. The length of your stay depends on the number of units you buy in the LLC. For example, if there are six owners, each has the use of the house for two months per year
Better than a time-share. Those who have bought into our LLCs to date are enthusiastic about the quality of the houses, the locations—everything that makes this kind of home ownership unique. Unlike holidays at time-share condominiums, where you’re usually limited to two weeks and have no equity, you become a part owner of your house. Arrangements about who comes when are jointly agreed to by the members. (See “How is a member’s use established?” in FAQ.)
We deal with the bureaucracy. French law and tax rules can be daunting for non-Europeans. Since we’re familiar with the requirements for buying and owning property in France, we take care of all that so you don’t have to.
Experience the joys of an undiscovered corner of France. Our houses are in areas that are typical of France at its most relaxing, charming and unspoiled. They’re not in big busy cities, yet they’re still within easy reach of urban centers with cultural and cosmopolitan attractions. You’ll find yourself part of the local community—shopping at the market, sampling the fare at neighborhood restaurants, hiking and biking, exploring the countryside--without crowds, and without the pressure of knowing you must pack up and leave the day after tomorrow! You might take a cooking class, become a wine connoisseur, take a French language course, drive off for a dip in the sea.
